WCPOS vs WooCommerce's official POS
WooCommerce now ships its own point of sale in its mobile app. Here is what it does, what it doesn't, and when it is the better choice.
Who runs this comparison
This page is published by kilbot, the maker of WCPOS. We obviously have a horse in this race — so every number is sourced and dated, we link to competitors' own pricing pages, and we tell you plainly when a competitor is the better choice. Check everything.
The short answer
WCPOS runs in any modern browser, as desktop apps for Windows and macOS, and as iOS and Android apps (beta), with any WooCommerce payment gateway. It is offline-first, its free version has no caps on products, orders, or customers, and Pro adds multi-store management and card-terminal integrations for a one-time payment that never switches off.
WooCommerce's official POS lives inside the WooCommerce mobile app (“WooCommerce: Store & POS”). The POS software is free, built by WooCommerce itself, and takes cash, plus cards through WooPayments or Stripe with a Bluetooth card reader. It is designed for tablets, is available to stores in ten countries, does not sell subscriptions or downloadable products, has no offline mode, and does not support multiple locations yet.

Where can you use it?
WooCommerce's POS is a mode of the WooCommerce mobile app. WooCommerce describes it as designed for tablets — iPad and Android tablets — and it is available to stores in ten countries (Australia, Canada, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, the UK and the US) that use their country's own currency.
WCPOS runs in any modern browser, as desktop apps for Windows and macOS, and as iOS and Android apps (beta), with unlimited devices and cashiers per license. Use the counter computer you already have, a tablet, or both.
How do card payments work?
WooCommerce's POS takes cash, and takes cards through WooPayments or Stripe with a Bluetooth card reader connected to the tablet. With WooPayments, in-person card payments cost less than online ones: in the US, 2.70% + $0.10 against 2.90% + $0.30 online. A card reader costs $5.00 / £5.00 per active reader per month.
WCPOS takes payments through WooCommerce's own checkout, so any WooCommerce-compatible payment gateway can work at the register. Pro adds card-terminal integrations for Stripe Terminal, SumUp, PayPal Reader (Zettle), Square Terminal, Mollie Terminal, and Vipps MobilePay, installable one-click from the extension catalog. WCPOS does not support Tap to Pay or WooPayments in-person payments.
What does it cost?
WooCommerce's POS software is free and included with the WooCommerce mobile app. If you use a card reader, there is a $5.00 / £5.00 fee per active reader per month, and card payments pay your payment provider's in-person rate.
WCPOS is free, with no caps on products, orders, customers, or cash sales. Pro is $129 — a one-time payment covering one year of updates and priority support — or $399 lifetime. It never auto-renews, and Pro keeps working after the year ends: nothing switches off, ever. WCPOS charges no transaction fees; you pay your payment processor's own rates.
Pro adds: multi-store management, card-terminal integrations, coupons, refunds via the POS API, order history, customer management at the register, store-specific pricing, stock and price editing, end-of-day reports, and the extension directory.

What WooCommerce's POS doesn't do (yet)
As verified on 2026-10-06, WooCommerce's POS has these limits:
- Designed for tablets: iPad and Android tablets.
- Stores in ten countries only: Australia, Canada, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, the UK and the US, using that country's own currency.
- No subscriptions or downloadable products.
- No offline mode: it needs an active internet connection.
- No multi-location support yet.
- Card payments need WooPayments or Stripe.
WooCommerce keeps adding POS features to WooCommerce core, so expect this list to shrink — we re-check it every quarter.
Where WooCommerce's POS is genuinely better
An honest comparison cuts both ways:
- Its POS software is free, with no license at all — WCPOS Pro costs $129 or more.
- It is built by WooCommerce itself, inside the WooCommerce mobile app you may already use to run your store.
- Native WooPayments in-person payments, at a lower rate than WooPayments online (in the US, 2.70% + $0.10 against 2.90% + $0.30). WCPOS has no WooPayments in-person integration.
If your store is in one of its ten countries and uses that country's currency, you sell from a tablet, take cards through WooPayments or Stripe, and don't need an offline mode, multiple locations, or subscriptions and downloadable products at the register, WooCommerce's POS is free software and may be all you need.
Which should you choose?
Choose WCPOS if:
Your store is outside the ten countries WooCommerce's POS supports or doesn't use its country's own currency, you want a register in a web browser or in desktop apps for Windows and macOS, want to browse products and build carts offline, run more than one store, use a payment gateway other than WooPayments or Stripe, or want card terminals from SumUp, PayPal, Square, Mollie, or Vipps MobilePay.
Choose WooCommerce's POS if:
Your store is in one of its ten countries and uses that country's currency, you sell from an iPad or Android tablet, take cards through WooPayments or Stripe, and don't need an offline mode, multiple locations, or other payment gateways.
Frequently asked questions
Is WooCommerce's official POS free?
Yes, the POS software is free and included with the WooCommerce mobile app. If you use a card reader, there is a $5.00 / £5.00 fee per active reader per month, and card payments pay your payment provider's in-person rate. WCPOS's free plugin is free too, with no caps, and works with any WooCommerce payment gateway.
Which countries does WooCommerce's POS support?
As of 2026-10-06, stores in ten countries: Australia, Canada, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, the UK and the US. The store must also use that country's own currency. WCPOS has no country restriction.
Does WooCommerce's POS work offline?
No. WooCommerce says its POS needs an active internet connection to sync products, create orders and process payments. WCPOS is offline-first: products, customers, and carts are stored locally, so you can browse the catalog and build sales without a connection, and everything syncs when it returns. Completing checkout and validating coupons require server connectivity.
What devices does WooCommerce's POS run on?
WooCommerce describes its POS as designed for tablets — iPad and Android tablets — inside the WooCommerce mobile app. WCPOS runs in any modern browser, as desktop apps for Windows and macOS, and as iOS and Android apps (beta).
Does WCPOS support Tap to Pay?
No. WCPOS does not support Tap to Pay or WooPayments in-person payments. Card payments at the WCPOS register go through its terminal integrations — Stripe Terminal, SumUp, PayPal Reader (Zettle), Square Terminal, Mollie Terminal, and Vipps MobilePay — or through a WooCommerce payment gateway that works at checkout.
What happens when a WCPOS Pro license expires?
Nothing switches off. The Pro version you have keeps working for as long as you want — your register, your data, every feature. You stop receiving new updates and priority support until you choose to renew. This is deliberate: it means renewals have to be earned with updates worth paying for, and it guarantees your point of sale can never be remotely disabled.
